Holi
is the quintessential Indian festival that we all wait for. The colors, the
parties, the food, the fun…. But the catch is to find appropriate clothing in
which you’ll look fly while being comfortable to enjoy the festivities to the
fullest. Do you always get stuck wearing old-raggedly white clothes? Well, we
have put together some tips to help you change that and look fabulous.
1.
Look to the
stars:
a.
The best place to look for fashion and style inspiration when getting
ready for Holi is to see what the bollywood fashionistas are wearing. You can
even look to movies that have Holi scenes to get some inspiration. Like Deepika
Padukone in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, you can also wear an oversized mens
t-shirt in bright color and pair it with some distressed denim shorts. Or you
can go the other way and wear a crop top with some Indian fashion designer culottes or palazzo pants. Looser pants
mean you’ll be cool even if you are playing Holi under the sun. Just make sure
that none of your clothes are transparent or cling to your body when wet. You
can wear a pair of bikini underneath so that you don’t have to worry about wet
clothes and can jump into the pool anytime you want. Also don’t forget to wear
a pair of oversized sunnies so that colors don’t go into your eyes.
2.
Best fabrics for
Holi
a.
Cotton is THE fabric for summer. It will keep you cool and comfortable
in the Sun. A cotton t-shirt, a kurta or a fashion
designer summer dress would be a good option. But think about how much skin
you want to expose to the sun. Accordingly, choose either long sleeves, longer
pants or shorter tops and denim shorts. If you decide to expose more skin,
remember to lather up with sunscreen. Not just your face but all over your
body. Also make sure that the sunscreen is waterproof and reapply every few
hours to avoid getting sunburnt.
3.
Ethnic Wear for
Holi
a.
If you are playing Holi with family members and want to wear ethnic
clothes, you can go for the classic combination of a white long kurta with some
leggings or jeans. For contrast, take a colorful dupatta. Try a tie-dye dupatta
or block-print dupatta or an Indian
designer ikat-print stole. Wear some silver bangles and jhumkas. For
footwear, wear some rubber chappals that won’t destroyed by the color.
