9 Easy Fashion Resolutions to Keep in 2017

1.       Resolution #1: Start wearing more Jewellery

a.      If you are the kind who sticks to the same pair of gold/diamond studs with every outfit, then this one is for you. To ease into wearing more variety of jewellery, start with a pair of statement earrings. You’ll the most impact with the least amount of effort. You can try a style you are more comfortable whether it is a sculptural pair or glitzy, shoulder-grazing pair. Or you can go more bold and try traditional Indian costume jewellery.

2.      Resolution #2: Find a Going-Out uniform that makes you feel confident, comfortable and sexy

a.      Give your go-to black body-con LBD a break and pick a silhouette that gives you a little more room to breathe.
b.      Instead of going for a traditional fashion designer dress, give separates like crop top and shorts or midi-skirts sets a try.
c.       If you want to up your vampy status, then go for a semi-sheer blouse and pencil skirt combo.
d.      You can also try going for sexy fabrics like black lace in casual, simple silhouettes to balance it out.

3.      Resolution #3: Break out of your habit of wearing only black

a.      If the only color residing in your closet are just varying shades of black, then resolve to add a bit of color to your outfits this coming year. Ease into this by wearing colors like light, dusty pinks and army greens. These colors are more close to neutrals than say reds and oranges.

4.     Resolution #4: Find a staple, classic bag

a.      Add a semi-structured tote to your collection which you can easily transition from your work week to your weekend events. Make sure it’s not too large or too small. Bonus point if it has some interesting, yet subtle detail.

5.      Resolution #5: Start dressing for the job you want

a.      Adopt a work uniform that displays your authority, makes you feel confident and makes people take notice of your charisma. If you are in middle-or upper-management, go for a power suit. Wearing jeans and a white Indian fashion designer shirt is just not acceptable.

6.      Resolution #6: Find a pair of killer heels that don’t actually kill your feet

a.      Block heels are back in full force. Find a nude or pastel pair and you’ll get the height of the heels and comfort of the flats. It truly is the best of both worlds.

7.      Resolution #7: Be proud of your curves

a.      With the Kardashians ruling the world, I think it’s high time we stopped being embarrassed by our curves. Flaunt your curves in beautiful fashion designer dress with a peplum design or hip-hugging jeans.

8.     Resolution #8: Invest in proper, grown-up lingerie

a.      Want to feel like a grown up? Start matching your panties with your bras. Bonus points if you can incorporate fabrics like silks and laces. You’ll feel a hundred times more confident while wearing such grown-up lingerie.

9.      Resolution #9: Edit your closet

a.      Go through your closet. Separate clothes into the ones you want to keep, the ones that are too worn out and the ones that you can donate. Indian fashion designer dresses are made to last. So you can easily donate them if they don’t fit your style. While sorting, keep in mind your current personal style, your body shape and what you want your clothes to say about you.

What’s in my Closet? Fashion Designer Christmas Edition

Winter means my wardrobe is begging for a update. I packed away my summer clothes, donated whatever I didn’t want and threw away whatever was too old. Then I went on a shopping spree and added quite a few interesting pieces to my collection. I wanted to get some good pieces for all the Christmas and New Year’s parties I will be attending. A little early Christmas gift for myself. I’ll link all the pieces I got, so you can also get your hands on them before they run out.

1.      This is from the Fall-Winter Collection of Peachoo, the Indian fashion designer. I wanted to get a LBD I could wear to my best friend’s Christmas shindig but I didn’t want a regular, boring dress that would blend in with everyone else. The beautiful embroidery on the top makes the look very festive and interesting. The longer sleeves will keep me warm and not shivering in the name of fashion. But the biggest point to recommend this dress is its pleated, empire waistline. There would be no food babies in sight for me.

2.     Some parties I would be attending would be held in backyards or rooftops, so I wanted to get an outerwear that looked as good as a party dress. I found my soulmate with this Leather trench in mustardy brown. This piece is by the Indian designers, Ikai. The black piping around the collar and on the belt adds interest to an otherwise simple coat. I am truly in love with this find. I will be warm and stylish. I can’t wait to wear this. A pair of knee-high brown leather boots are all I need.

3.      No winter shopping is complete without a sweat shirt. If you know me by now, I am a fan of basics with interesting details. Case in point, this Aiman Moon Sweatshirt. It’s one of my favorite favorite piece of Indian fashion designer clothing in my collection. I love that the sweatshirt is in a basic navy blue color but comes with colorful octopus and third-eye embroidery. I am getting serious Japanese painting vibes from it. It truly is like wearing a piece of art. I am going to wear it with some high waisted jeans or a pencil skirt.

4.    I am a sucker for trousers. They are both comfortable and look put together. I love wearing these on days when I am lazy but want to fool the world into thinking I am not. This pair is by an up-and-coming Indian fashion designer, Anomaly, who make some really simple, good quality basics. I love the interesting side-pleats this pair has going. This is perfect for office or meeting the boyfriend’s parents or any other adulting activities you need to do. I’ll most probably pair these with ankle boots. This a solid basic piece to have in your closet. I’ll definitely be wearing this pair well into the summer.

5.      A red-beaded crop top is not exactly basic but I wanted to get something for that one day in the year I want to get really festive. This is also by Peachoo, the fashion designer. This is such a gorgeous piece with a beige base and berry red beadings. And don’t even get me started on the floral edge on the waistline. This is the perfect balance of festive and understated. I can already imagine all the ways I would love to style this piece. A top bun, red lips, golden or black full midi skirt and heels.

6.      Now that I got through all my clothings, the final piece I bought was a pair of earrings. I chose this because it goes with everything. It’s edgy and stylish, right up my alley.

10 Types of Chain Designs For Your Wedding Jewellery

Sometimes making sense of all the various types of jewellery available in the market these days is difficult. Everything looks pretty. But finding something to match your outfit is equally hard.

With the wedding season upon us, jewellery shopping for your own or a close friend’s wedding is on all of our minds. We have compiled this mini-glossary of the different types of chains to help you navigate your jewellery shopping expedition.
Chains are broadly divided up into Classic, Textural and Sleek.
CLASSIC CHAINS
1. Cable Chain
Shaped like chain links but on a really small scale. Usually, the links are shaped in oval or round which are then, uniformly interlocked in various patterns. The key is that each link lies at ninety degree angles to the next link. These, too, come in different variations like parallel links or double links. These are one of the favourite designs of jewellery designers.
2. Curb Chain
One of the most durable choice for bracelets or necklaces, curbs are a special type of chain link. In this type of chain, special “curb” or curved links are used which stay interlocked even when they’re laid flat.
3. Figaro Chain
Originating from the jewellery designers of Italy, Figaro chains are characterized by their different sized links that are interlocked together. Some links are longer than others which are arranged in various patterns. This is a type of modified curb chain.
TEXTURAL CHAINS
1. Popcorn Chain
Resembling a garland of popcorn, they beads are linked in a cluster pattern to given the necklace an interesting texture and dimension. Don’t let the appearance of the necklace fool you. The necklace itself is pretty lightweight. It is perfect for when you want to wear heavy jewellery with your simple, monochromatic lehenga or saree but don’t want to be weighed down by it. It is another favourite of quirky jewellery designers.
2. Rope Chain
This chain looks like a piece of jute rope but made of gold or silver. These come in a twisted or looped pattern. These look especially gorgeous as simple, choker necklace or as thin, delicate bracelet. This is one of the most popular style of chains among brides and bridesmaids.
3. Byzantine Chain
Known by many interesting names like “birdcage” and “fool’s dilemma”, the design is as intricate and complex as the empire it is named after. This jewellery style incorporates the rope-style with elegant textural designs. What makes this design stand out is that each link passes through four other links. Also the links alternate their directions. Studying a byzantine chain up close is truly a fascinating experience.
4. Wheat Chain
The design for this chain is derived from the design of the tips of wheat stalks. The links are shaped like very thin and long teardrops which are, then, arranged so that they all point in the same direction. Each link is interlocked with kind of like a hinge, so this style is more stiff than others. This style, too, is perfect as short, choker styles.
SLEEK CHAINS
1. Snake Chain
Another design inspired by nature that jewellery designers love are the snake chains, also known as Brazilian chain. They look like a slinky snake. Arranged in a zigzag pattern, the links are interlocked so that they look round or square in the cross-section. It would look very interesting as a bracelet.
2. Box Chain
Briolette chains, also known as box chains, we very popular amongst jewellery designers during the Victorian era. The speciality of the chain is that it comes with a briolette, a pear-shaped gemstone pendant with cut facets. The briolette is drilled so as to hang it as a bead on the chain. And as the name suggests, the links are shaped like box which are connected together.
3. Singapore Chain
Combining a curb chain with a rope chain, these are also called twisted curb. The chain looks like liquid. The links are twisted around each other. But even when the links are untwisted, they still retain their natural curve. You should ask your jewellery designer to make you one.

2016 Bridal Trends: Fashion Designer Sabyasachi Reveals His Fashion Tips

Sabyasachi is revered as one of the top bridal fashion designers of our country, and correctly so. He has styled the weddings of the likes of Bollywood superstars Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerjee.

Planning on getting married soon? The wedding preparations driving you crazy? We have put together a list of advice from Sabyasachi himself to help you navigate through the labyrinth that is an Indian wedding wardrobe.

1.       Having a destination wedding? Stick with the Maharani blouse. The biggest hassle for attending a destination wedding is to pack lightly while still packing all the necklace sets, chandbalis and kamar-bandhas to be decked out for a large Indian wedding. The solution: the signature Maharani blouse designed by fashion designer Sabyasachi. These blouses come with full-length sleeves and high-neck. There is heavy, intricate embroidery and kadai around the neckline and sleeves which do double duty as statement necklaces, kada and bangles. Just pack some chandbalis and bindis and you are good to go.

2.      Stay consistent with your fashion designer groups. What Sabyasachi means is that wearing many incompatible designers for your mehendi, sangeet, reception, etc. can make you end up looking less of a blushing bride, and more like a bridezilla. Therefore consistency is the key. Pick outfits for each occasion from one top fashion designer or many designers who share the same aesthetic. This way you can avoid looking like an eyesore. For example if the mood of your wedding wardrobe is “earthy Indian ethnic”, then pick clothes from the likes of Anamika Khanna, Sabyasachi and Anuradha Wakeel. If your style is more Bollywood glitz and glamour, then take your pick from Shantanu & Nikhil, Gaurav Gupta and Manish Malhotra.

3.      Another top fashion tip for brides is to stick with monochromatic colors. You don’t want to look like a Diwali fireworks or christmas tree by wearing a riot of colors. The top designer, Sabyasachi, wishes he could take back the trend he started of wearing contrasting green blouse with red sarees. Sticking with monochromatic color palette like red-gold or just beige or red can help streamline the look and make the bride stand out from all the people wearing a riot of reds with their pinks and oranges and greens.

4.      Another little trick to make it easy for you to plan your outfit is to work backwards from your lehenga to your jewellery or from your heirloom jewellery to lehenga. This way you can create an harmonious outfit. For example, if you have a busy, loud lehenga, go for a linear jewellery set. But if you are going for a monochromatic lehenga, then you can go a little wild and experiment with your jewellery. For heirloom jewellery pieces, again stick with simpler outfits to make your jewelleries stand out.

5.      If you plan to wear a golden fashion designer lehenga or saree, you can really go all out with your jewellery. Even things like jadua, panna, manak or even navratan won’t take away from your outfit because everything will still be monochromatic. If your lehenga or saree is colorful, then it is better to keep the jewellery simple and stick with linear jewellery. But if you really want to wear a statement jewellery piece, then go with a simpler lehenga.

8 Up and Coming Women Dress Designers You Need To Know

All of us can name french, italian and a few Indian designers off the top of our heads. So, today to expand your knowledge, we bring you these up-and-coming Indian women designers that you need to know. These are the fresh faces of the Indian fashion scene who are changing the game.

Every time we think of Indian designers, we only imagine them designing elaborate wedding lehengas and sarees. But these designers are a tad different. These designers specialize in bringing contemporary clothing like dresses and trousers and giving them a wholly Indian twist. Sometimes it’s the fabrics they use, like handwoven cotton or linen. And sometimes it’s the motif of Indian village scene that they display on the dresses. And sometimes it’s the cut of the dress in a traditional silhouette like a saree.

 1.       Anomaly: First on our list is Anomaly. Launched in 2015, it is the brainchild of woman dress designer Medha Khosla. Medha graduated from Pratt Institute and has worked with brands like DKNY. All their collections incorporate clean, simple, and balanced lines; grids that define the garment and minimalistic silhouettes that require no layering.

3.      Bodice: Another brand that espouses minimalism is Bodice. Founded in 2011 by Ruchika Sachdeva, all their devil is in their details.
